What is the Blues?

The blues is more than just a genre of music; it's a feeling, a story, and the foundation of much of modern music, including rock and roll, jazz, and R&B. Originating in African-American communities in the Southern United States, the blues is characterized by its specific chord progressions, most commonly the 12-bar blues, and its expressive, soulful nature.

The Gear You Need

You don't need a lot of fancy equipment to start playing the blues. A simple acoustic or electric guitar will do. If you're playing electric, you'll also need a small amplifier. Don't worry about pedals or expensive gear for now. The most important thing is to have a guitar that is comfortable for you to play.
