2. Holding the Guitar & Basic Posture
Comfort and correct posture are key to effortless playing.

Sitting vs. Standing

Most beginners find it easier to start playing while sitting down. Use a chair without arms. Your posture should be relaxed but upright. Avoid slouching over the guitar, as this can lead to back pain and make playing more difficult.

Positioning the Guitar

Rest the waist of the guitar on your right thigh (for right-handed players). The body of the guitar should be snug against your torso. The neck should be angled upwards at about a 45-degree angle. This position gives your fretting hand easy access to the entire fretboard. Your picking arm should rest comfortably over the body of the guitar, with your hand naturally falling over the soundhole (on an acoustic) or pickups (on an electric).
